⏰ Final Reminder: Hoops for Learning Closes Tonight!

There’s still time to support Hoops for Learning, but the pledge window closes tonight at 11:59 p.m.! You can make a flat donation or pledge online or by cash/check.

Our students will be shooting hoops on Monday, March 23 and every pledge helps us get closer to our school goal — including installing a Gaga Ball pit for DES! Plus, the student with the most money raised, and the student with the most pledges in their name will get a limo ride home from school!

If you’ve been meaning to donate or make a per-basket pledge, now’s the time! Share your student’s link with friends and family and help us make a big impact one basket at a time.

Thank you for supporting our Gators and helping make this fun, student-driven fundraiser a success! 🐊🏀

GREEN Unity Day, March 17

Tuesday, March 17, is AACPS Project Unity Day and 2-hour early dismissal.

Since this Unity Day conveniently coincides with 🍀St. Patrick's Day🍀 AND we are the Gators🐊, we will wear GREEN to unify and celebrate!

As we begin thinking about next school year, the DES PTO will have open Board positions for the 2026–2027 school year. Our PTO plays a big role in bringing fun events, meaningful programs, and extra support to our students, teachers, and school community—and we're always excited to welcome new ideas and new faces!

If you're interested in joining the DES PTO Board or would like to learn more about the different roles, please email current PTO president, Amy Forney. We'd be happy to answer your questions and help you find a position that's the right fit.

If you've ever thought about getting more involved, this is a great opportunity. Come help us continue building the amazing Gator community we all love! 🐊

Volunteering
Vision & Hearing Screening Volunteers Needed!

We are in need of volunteers on Thursday, March 19th from 8am-1pm to help escort kindergarten students to and from vision and hearing screenings.

There are 2 shifts available for you to choose from and you do not have to be a Kindergarten parent in order to help.

Volunteer here!

Gaga Ball Pit Installation

In anticipation of reaching our Hoops for Learning school-wide goal, we're soliciting volunteers to help work on the new Gaga Ball Pit for the school during the weekend of March 21. It’s a great opportunity for families to help build something fun and lasting for our students.

Volunteers may need some tools, such as a cordless drill, sockets, wrenches, etc. It should only take a few hours if we have about 10 people.  Click here to volunteer to lend a hand for this project.

Please reach out to Jeremy Sands if you have any questions.

Talent Show Gold!

A HUGE thank you to Nicole Szabo for making the Talent Show an incredible night this year!  Words are not enough to show our appreciation for taking on this huge event and making our Gators feel so special and celebrated. Thank you for the time and energy you put into helping our students Go for the Gold!

Also, to all of our talented students and parent support volunteers...we couldn't have done it without your amazing participation!

From the Community
DAA Volleyball

Is your child interested in playing volleyball this spring? Our 10u team is looking for a few more players and coaching help!

This spring season will be played in a league organized by GORC. Practices will begin mid-March, games will be played on Saturdays, and the season runs through the middle of May. We are also looking for coaching help for this age group; if interested in coaching, please reach out to the commissioner at volleyball@daagators.orgbefore registering for a discount code.

South River Field Hockey Summer Clinic

Our camp is led by dedicated coaches along with high school players who were part of a County Championship team that advanced to the State Semifinals. As a newer coaching staff to South River, we are motivated to continue raising the standard of play locally and to support the next generation of athletes.

📍 Location: South River High School

📅 Session 1: July 20–23

📅 Session 2: August 3–6

 Time: 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Spots are limited and tend to fill quickly, so we encourage you to register early.

We're looking forward to another great summer and to continuing to grow the game in our community.

Martial Arts Scholarships Available

Our community partner, South River Martial Arts, is offering five SRMA scholarships to support DES families. Each scholarship includes one month of Taekwondo training along with a Taekwondo uniform. If interested in this, please email Jaime Superczynski.
