The News

Wow, what a fantastic turnout of parents and guardians during our 1st PTO General Membership Meeting! We are thrilled about the collaboration and are already looking forward to our next meeting on November 14!

General Membership Meetings are open to ALL of our DES families!

The benefits of becoming a PTO member include voting privileges at meetings and access to the student directory. Access the benefits by becoming a PTO member today!

Grateful Gators

This school year, the PTO wants to show more appreciation to those who make our school the wonderful learning place it is. To do so, we need your help!

As the first appreciation day approaches, we invite our families to record a quick video of their students expressing their thanks to our beloved custodians. These staff members go above and beyond to ensure our students have the cleanest learning environment possible and that our school looks beautiful! Custodian Appreciation Day is October 2.

Please share your videos by emailing them to vpcomms.pto.des@gmail.com by September 28.

Parent Portal Attendance Notes

AACPS has implemented a new way for parents to submit notes for absences or early dismissals. Click here to access directions to submit attendance notes online, or click here to submit through the PowerSchool App.

Fundraising
No-Fuss Fundraiser - Only a few more hours to donate!

DONATE NOW

The No-Fuss Fundraiser ends tonight!

Help your class get a theme party; help your grade get popsicles; help support our custodians, cafeteria staff, and bus drivers; and help the PTO make it the best year ever. There is still time to donate! 50% of all donations made before midnight tonight will go directly to our custodians, cafeteria staff, and bus drivers!

We have raised $16,404.63 so far, crushing our $15,000 goal. We have raised $1325 for our support staff, half of the total amount raised since Friday. And the school earned ROCKIN' RECESS!!!

This week, please be on the lookout for an email on ROCKIN' RECESS and how you can get involved. If you have lawn games, bubble machines, sidewalk chalk, outdoor toys, etc., that you would be willing to let us use for Rockin' Recess, please email VPFundraising.pto.des@gmail.com.

Thank you for your continued support of our kids in the classroom and for helping us host fun activities throughout the year!

Name the Gator!

In case you missed it, as an added incentive to the NO-FUSS FUNDRAISER, the grade level that raised the most money by Friday, 9/22/2023, would get to name the DES Gator mascot for the 2023-2024 school year!

And the winner is.....FIRST GRADE!

Volunteer
We need you!

The PTO Volunteer Program is one of the best ways parents can support our school's students and staff. As a volunteer, you are playing to your strengths to help make our school better.

To learn about the many ways to be involved, click here to see a brief description of each volunteering area and indicate your preliminary interests.

Filling out this form does not commit you to participation in the indicated committee or club. Instead, your contact information will be forwarded to the PTO board member or chairperson who is leading that activity, and they will be in touch with you.

Volunteers

To get involved, please check out the General SignUp Genius for the current volunteering opportunities. Be sure to navigate through the tabs to see all the current options!

Volunteer Coffee and Orientation

Come get the SCOOP on how to volunteer at Davidsonville Elementary. Please join us for an in-person or virtual Volunteer Orientation. This event is for anyone interested in learning more about the volunteering opportunities at DES! Because we will be staying in the cafeteria, younger children are allowed to join this event! Click here to RSVP.

Clubs

The PTO will launch a few clubs over the next several weeks. Please note that most clubs have limited space, and students will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. The DES PTO organizes most clubs but may have a 3rd party company provide instruction, etc.

Please be on the lookout for more information about the following clubs that will also be offered this fall:

  • Green School Club - Starting in October
  • Martial Arts
  • Spelling Club
Yoga Club Announcement

The Yoga Club is FULL and will not be taking any additional students for this session.

ONLY 5 spots left in Chess Club!

The DES Chess Club still has five spots available! Click here to see the flyer sent home.

If you have any questions about the club, contact Brooke Zingler at vpvolunteers.pto.des@gmail.com.

To register, scan the QR Code or visit www.chessacademy.com.

DES Lego Club
Lego Club is almost full!

Only 3 spots are left in the Lego Club. To claim your spot, please email Ann-Marie Gnall at amsaucier@gmail.com. The first 3 people will be added to the roster.

Thank you to the parents who already signed up to volunteer. We'd like to add a few more in case some volunteers cannot make it to every session. Click here to sign up to volunteer for specific days.

ONE spot left for Spanish Club!

If your estudiante is interested, sign up right away! This is an excellent opportunity to learn Spanish in a fun and engaging way!

If your child does not get a spot, you can add them to a waitlist by clicking here.

If financial assistance is needed in Lego or Spanish clubs, please contact Colleen Isett at cisett@aacps.org.
