Harvest for the Hungry

The Harvest for the Hungry campaign, a yearly campaign that addresses food insecurity in AACO, starts today and will run through October 31. During the Harvest for the Hungry–Kids Helping Kids campaign, schools and business partners contribute food and funding to support the Anne Arundel County Food Bank; more than 51,000 people in our county, including 1 in 3 students, are food insecure. See details below for our DES Spirit Week benefiting the Harvest for the Hungry.

Family Involvement Conference

As mentioned at the first PTO Meeting, the AACPS Office of School & Family Partnerships is hosting a Family Involvement Conference at Crofton High School on Saturday, October 21, 8 am - 1pm.

You will have the opportunity to hear opening remarks from the Superintendent, Dr. Bedell, and participate in breakout sessions that will fill your toolbox with strategies you can use with your children at home. For more information and to register, visit aacps.org/familyconference

Fifth Grade Families!

You should have received a postcard this week with information about Magnet programs for middle school. If you'd like more information on these programs, access the Magnet Programs site here. Several information sessions will take place within the next month.

Rockin’ Recess is October 5th!!!

Volunteer
We need you!

The PTO Volunteer Program is one of the best ways parents can support our school's students and staff. As a volunteer, you are playing to your strengths to help make our school better.

To learn about the many ways to be involved, click here to see a brief description of each volunteering area and indicate your preliminary interests.

Volunteers

To get involved, please check out the General SignUp Genius for the current volunteering opportunities. Be sure to navigate through the tabs to see all the current options!

Virtual Volunteer Orientation

If you missed the in-person volunteer orientation this past Friday, don't fret! We've got you covered! 😉 A virtual option will be offered on Tuesday, October 3, at 7 p.m.

Please RSVP for the virtual meeting here.

To access the Zoom meeting on Tuesday, click here.

Teacher's Elves is up and running!

If you would like to volunteer by making copies for teachers, sign up here! Please call before going into the school to make sure there are copies to be made that day!

Clubs

The PTO will launch a few clubs over the next several weeks. Please note that most clubs have limited space, and students will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. The DES PTO organizes most clubs but may have a 3rd party company provide instruction, etc.

Please be on the lookout for more information about the following clubs that will also be offered this fall:

  • Green School Club - Starting in October
  • Martial Arts
  • Spelling Club
Social
DES Movie Night

Please join the PTO on October 13th for a 6:30 pm free showing of "The Super Mario Bros." movie on the baseball fields! Bring your own blankets or chairs.

We need volunteers for Movie Night!
